Gold


General
  Clinical Use: Gold (Au) salts are used in the treatment (chrysotherapy) of rheumatoid arthritis. Au accumulates in different tissue compartments at varying rates and is detectable in serum 10 months after cessation of treatment. At least 35% of patients undergoing chrysotherapy develop some degree of Au toxicity. The most common manifestation is dermatitis with eosinophilia; other side effects include pruritus and albuminuria.
