Insulin


General
  Clinical Use: Insulin is most useful in the investigation of hypoglycaemia - suggest measure insulin with concurrent glucose and C-peptide after an overnight fast or at time of symptoms.
  Availability: Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.

Fasting Insulin <12 mU/L
In hypoglycaemia, serum insulin should be suppressed (<2 mU/L)

  Minimum Collection Volume: 1mL
  Collection Instructions: Samples from children aged 10 years and less should be centrifuged, separated and frozen within 1 hour of collection.

  Processing Instructions: If a paediatric sample is not received frozen, please forward sample to the testing department to determine sample suitability.
