Test Entry - Detail

Anti-Neutrophil Cytoplasmic Antibody

General
Clinical Use: Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA), is a first-line screening test used in the assessment of patients with suspected ANCA-associated vasculitis comprising granulomatous polyangiitis (GPA vasculitis), eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA vasculitis) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA vasculitis).
Positive ANCA may also be seen in non-vasculitic conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis.
A positive ANCA screening test will be routinely followed by second-line testing for MPO and PR3 antibodies which are more specific confirmatory tests for the ANCA-associated vasculitides.
Availability: Samples are batched and tested twice a week.
Please contact testing laboratory for urgent requests.
