Clinical Use:

To monitor warfarin therapy. To screen for extrinsic factor (II, V, VII, IX and X) deficiencies.

Availability:

Samples are tested routinely during the testing laboratory's hours of operation.
This test may be eligible for Rule 3 exemption if indicated.

Warfarin therapy (Consult a Haematologist for detailed guidelines.  A general outline is given below). 
Target INR is 2.0-3.0 for most indications including mechanical aortic valve replacement without additional risk factors and bio prosthetic valves.

Target INR is 2.5-3.5 for mitral mechanical heart valves and mechanical aortic valves with risk factors (AF, previous thromboembolism, LV dysfunction, hypercoagulable condition, and older-generation mechanical AVR).
