Varicella zoster Virus Serology


General
  Clinical Use: Diagnostic and immunity testing for varicella zoster virus (VZV). VZV IgG testing is performed on all requests. VZV IgM testing is performed if specifically requested of history suggests acute chickenpox infection. However, VZV IgM testing is not routinely recommended due to risk of false positive or false negative results. For laboratory confirmation of chickenpox (varicella) or shingles (zoster), VZV PCR testing is recommended.
  Availability: Samples are tested Monday-Friday.
