Synacthen Stimulation Test


General
  Clinical Use: Diagnosis of Addison's disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and other cortisol deficient states.
PathWest perform Synacthen Stimulation Tests on patients >16yo with a specialist referral.

  Reference Interval:
In a normal adrenal response, serum cortisol usually exceeds 430 nmol/L at 30 mins post Synacthen (Abbott Architect platform).

  Collection Instructions: Administration of Synacthen is a specialised procedure requiring a medical officer.

Consent and Procedure Form
Samples should be collected for cortisol at baseline, 30 and 60 minutes post Synacthen.
Ensure each tube is labelled with correct collection time.
